Tuesday Ramblings.....

Whew!!!
It's been a whirlwind these last several days. Here's what we've been up to.

Daddy McAustin is HOME!!! They boys were soooo excited, and we all got gifts! The boys got these tanks....too cute.
Little Bit concentrating VERY hard on going down the slide.....going forward (as opposed to feetfirst on your belly) is a newly-acquired skill honed on our trip to Schlitterbahn.
Critter "ssssuuuuwwwwinging!"
I received several gifts, the most coveted being the Meiji Chocolate Covered almonds.....heaven.

We spent the weekend doing fun family stuff: playgrounds, swimming, playing, wrestling. It's very nice to have someone else to play "human jungle gym" with these two monkeys! (Yes, the Critter actually broke into a rousing rendition of "The Bear Went Over the Mountain" during one session last week.)

And then Daddy came down a nasty stomach bug. (All those people, 14 hours on a plane, breathing the same air.....) He spent all day yesterday quarantined in our bedroom...or maybe I should say bathroom.... so as not to share. Keep your fingers crossed.

Last week I did something I thought I would never do. No, not anything obscene, but something practical. I really like to cook, and I like going to the grocery store (even with my kids), but it's HOT, and I'm 7 months pregnant, and I really don't want that nasty swelling to start with this baby like it did with Little Bit. So standing to cook an entire meal is getting to be a bit taxing. Three friends and I started a cooking club, and would get together once about every 6 weeks to plan, prepare and assemble 8-10 meals we could take home and freeze. I love having meals-at-the-ready so all I have to do is put a couple of sides with it and voila'! dinner's DONE! But again, in my current state, the idea of spending a morning refereeing toddlers while trying to put together meals, all the while standing wasn't so appealing. So I caved, and went to the Studio Kitchen. This is a local version of Dream Dinners and Super Suppers. I went with a friend and we spent 2.5 hours assembling these 12 yummy -looking and -smelling meals to take home. I split mine into 2 containers each, so I have 24 meals ready to go....for $200 (friend had a coupon).

Snacks, wine, adult conversation, music, NO cleanup, no shopping. A real deal in my thinking. You can even pay an extra $34 (as opposed to the $30 I paid my babysitter for the privilege of leaving my house!)and they will assemble them for you, ready to be picked up....kind of like having your own personal chef. We will have the enchiladas tonight. I don't think I will do this all the time, but think of the possibilities for the holiday season, when you have ZERO time! Check it out. Yet another great idea that I thought of and didn't act on, and have missed out on my chance to make millions......oh well. (For those of you who don't have one nearby, and are looking for a great franchise/entrepeneur opportunity....think about it.)

Lastly, I have updated my links. I am now on month 2 of this blog, and just recently discovered that I've been linked! Thanks to Amy and Mainline Mom. To the right you will see the blogs I find witty, contemplative, irreverent, affirming, inspiring, or just plain fun and funny. Check them out, and tell them I sent you!
Later.

Thanks for the linkage!! Congrats on hubby coming home! Hope he doesn't have the same strain of awfulness that we had. I have summarily been blamed for infecting the whole family even though my boys were 36 hours out of it when we saw everyone!! Grrrr... The meals thing sounds great. I may have to try that someday. Isn't the blog world great? I love it that I can have adult conversations and friends without leaving the confines of my computer area!! Although I do like to get out every now and then...lately I find I would rather blog...

I'm glad to hear good things about those "pre-made" kitchen places! There's one opening here in October and I thought it woule make a great Mothers' Night Out for my moms' club!
